Goal of Spiritual Life
The final objective of all spiritual pursuit is the dissolution of ego and the realization of the unity of Consciousness. Any tendency to assert superiority, suppress others, or deny equal participation contradicts this very goal. Where ego thrives, true spirituality cannot blossom.
Swamy Sivananda
Spirituality is essentially a journey from individuality (เค เคนंเคाเคฐ) to universality (เคฌ्เคฐเคน्เคฎเคญाเคต). The ego creates separation—“I” and “others”—while true knowledge reveals oneness. When one dominates or excludes others in a spiritual setting, it only strengthens this false sense of separateness, thereby taking one further away from the Truth.
The Bhagavad Gita clearly describes the vision of a realized being:
A true yogi sees the same Self in all beings and all beings in the Self. Such a vision naturally expresses as equality, inclusiveness, and humility.
Further, the Gita highlights the qualities of a true devotee:
One who is free from hatred, friendly and compassionate, devoid of possessiveness and ego—such a person alone is dear to the Lord.
Similarly, the destruction of ego is described as the moment of liberation:
The “knot of the heart” is nothing but ego. Until it is dissolved, all spiritual practice remains incomplete.
Yet, it is often seen that some individuals indulge in self-aggrandisement—seeking recognition, projecting importance, and subtly asserting their superiority even within spiritual environments. This not only reflects the persistence of เค เคนंเคाเคฐ but also distorts the very purpose of sฤdhanฤ.
Thus, the real test of spiritual progress is not position, authority, or recognition, but the extent to which ego has weakened and unity is experienced. A truly evolved person does not control others, but uplifts them; does not exclude, but includes—because he sees no “other” at all.
