"Brahman or the Eternal is hidden in the Upanishads which constitute the essence of the Vedas. Just as fire consumes the fuel, so also Brahman destroys the ignorance of the aspirants. Realise this Brahman through self-exertion and grace of the Lord and attain immortality.
May the blessings of the Rishis be upon you all."
Swami Sivananda
Swami Sivananda reminds us that Brahman — the Eternal Reality — is revealed in the Upanishads, which are the very essence of the Vedas. It is “hidden” not because it is distant, but because ignorance (เค เคตिเคฆ्เคฏा) veils our understanding.
Just as fire burns fuel to ashes, so does Self-knowledge destroy ignorance. When ignorance is removed, the Truth shines by itself. As the Bhagavatgita says:
เค्เคाเคจाเค्เคจिः เคธเคฐ्เคตเคเคฐ्เคฎाเคฃि เคญเคธ्เคฎเคธाเคค्เคुเคฐुเคคे เคคเคฅा
The fire of knowledge reduces all actions to ashes.
( Lord Krishna emphasises that Knowledge does not erase the karma but destroys its binding power. )
Realisation requires both:
- Self-exertion — discipline, discrimination, meditation.
- Divine grace — inner guidance and removal of obstacles.
Immortality here does not mean bodily permanence, but the realisation:
“I am not the perishable body; I am the eternal Self.”
Finally, invoking the blessings of the Rishis signifies alignment with the living spiritual tradition that guides and protects the sincere aspirant.
Remove ignorance through effort, receive grace through surrender, and realise your immortal nature.
