After witnessing the Vishvarupa Darshan (the cosmic universal form of Lord Krishna), Arjuna is overwhelmed with awe and wonder. His body reacts with goosebumps and trembling, symbolizing both fear and devotion. Filled with reverence, he bows his head, folds his hands, and begins to speak to Krishna, acknowledging the divine majesty he has just seen.
- This verse captures the human response to the infinite—a mix of astonishment, devotion, and humility.
- Arjuna’s reaction shows how the ego dissolves when confronted with the vastness of the divine.
- It emphasizes bhakti (devotion) and surrender, as Arjuna bows and prepares to speak from a place of reverence rather than pride.

The unity of the two ( tvam and tat ) is indicated not at the level of their literal meanings, because their direct attributes are mutually contradictory.
Their oneness is taught only by indirect indication (lakแนฃaแนฤ)—just as (literal unity is impossible between) a glow-worm and the sun,a king and a servant,
the water of a well and the ocean,
or an atom and Mount Meru.
This verse explains how the Mahฤvฤkya “Tat Tvam Asi” works. The literal meanings (vฤcya) of tvam (the individual with body, mind, doership) and tat (ฤชลvara with omniscience and cosmic power) cannot be identical—their attributes directly oppose each other. Therefore, identity is not taught at the empirical level.
By lakแนฃaแนฤ (indirect indication), the contradictory attributes are negated, and the common essence alone remains:
Consciousness (Cit)
Existence (Sat)
Limitlessness (ฤnanda)
HAVE A BRIGHT AND CHEERFUL DAY
